Community Budget Gap Meeting
Franklin High School, 6:30-8:00 pm
This meeting will focus on next year’s projected budget gap. The district’s budget office will present the current budget challenges and solicit feedback. Seattle Council PTSA leadership will share information on how to get involved.
Unless the Legislature takes action to address school funding, the district has a projected deficit of $74 million for the 2017-18 school year. It is anticipated, based on the Legislature’s past practice, that they won’t pass an approved budget until June 2017. This will be highly disruptive for our schools, staff and students.
The district will need to plan for the worst-case scenario in order to perform essential school and department planning for the 2017-18 school year. Your feedback is important as the district makes decisions. You can find additional information regarding the projected gap on the budget webpage.

With Winter Break approaching, we have been working with our families to get them support with warm clothing, food for the break, and other needs. We have been fielding a lot of questions from families needing support with holiday gifts for their children, and trying our best secure donations, partner with other agencies, and refer families to places holding toy/supply drives. This year, the need has been larger than the available resources. We are reaching out to see if others in our community are able to contribute support in any way.
If you, or someone you know, is interested in supporting Aki families and able to contribute any of the following items, we will be sure that they are given to an Aki family requesting support!
Suggested Items: Beanies, Gloves, SportsBalls (Basketballs, Soccer, Footballs), Headphones, Socks w/ Designs, Games
Gift Cards to: Wal-Mart, Target, Toys R Us, GameStop
If you are able to help, please contact: Kevin Hale with Communities in Schools of Seattle at Aki Kurose (206) 252-7718 or drop off unwrapped items by Wednesday, Dec. 14 at the front office, labeled for Kevin.

Please join us for student-led conferences this Thursday, December 1: 3:30-5:15 or 6:00-8:00.
The purpose of the student-led conference is for students to share with their families what they are accomplishing in school. It also provides an opportunity to share educational goals and work that shows academic growth. You will receive your student’s first quarter report card this evening.
You must bring your student, since this conference is led by the student, who will present what they have been learning, and why they have earned their grades in each class.
(No conferences during 5:15-6:00 when the staff take a break.)
[11/28/16] Students are previewing the book fair today and they are so excited! We do need more volunteers to help run it this week. If you are available to help on Wednesday during the school day, please contact Tania Westby firstname.lastname@example.org or 206-252-7753. Thank you!
