Here's a link to the Amazon wishlist that will support getting books into the hands of students who are living at Mary's Place & Tent City.
Our 5th grade leadership team has been working on a project to create leveled libraries for Mary's Place and Tent Cities located in north Seattle. Information on how to provide support can be found on the project page linked here. They also have an Amazon wishlist. When books from that list are received, they are sent to North Beach so that our 5th graders can level them and send them to their new home.
[01/10/17] Looking forward to seeing you all tonight at our General PTA meeting along with our special guest Katie Gruver talking about Parenting in a time of Deep Divide in America
Parenting in a Time of Deep Divide in America with Katie Gruver- January 10th, 6:30pm
Regardless of your political views, there's no doubt that this is a time a great divide in our country. On the news, in our homes, and in our schools, people are talking about issues of race, gender identity, religion, immigration status and political affiliation. Whether you are talking about it or not, you're kids are hearing it.
This can be a confusing and questioning time even for adults, and even more so for kids. This is also a time of great opportunity; a time for parents and families to start authentic conversations about respect and justice, and to chance help our kids to build important the life-skills empathy, compassion, advocacy and repair.
Join us for skill-building session where you'll leave with age-appropriate book lists, conversation starters for the dinner table, some new vocabulary about how to handle tough questions from your kids, a starter kit on how to encourage and support activism for kids and families, as well as a new perspective about how to react when confronted (or your child is confronted) with issues of bigotry, sexism, racism or oppression.
