Pottery Northwest

The mission of Pottery Northwest is to develop and promote excellence in the ceramic arts. Pottery Northwest’s goal is to provide a professional facility in an educational atmosphere for the enhancement of skills in the medium of clay.

Pottery Northwest is a professional clay facility comprising 7200 square feet in an early 1900’s brick building at Seattle Center with an adjoining outdoor kiln yard.

Our equipment includes potter’s wheels, a slab roller, an extruder, a spray booth with compressor, clay mixer, and various workshop tools (saws, grinders, etc.). A dedicated glaze area stocks a full complement of materials. We have both electric and gas fired kilns, including soda and raku kilns and – a wood-fired pizza oven. We have recently upgraded our studio heating and lighting systems and added air filtration. There are a variety of semiprivate spaces available for residents.

Residents have 24 hour access to the studio.

potterynorthwest.org Three Cheers! This is the farewell installment of Pottery Northwest’s 50 People of the Pottery 50th anniversary series by, from left, Susan Phinney, Anne Foster and Janet Grimley.

Pottery Northwest 2016

2016 has been an awesome year as we've celebrated our 50th anniversary. Thank you for being a part of it! Be sure to check out our slide show below. You helped us with your enthusiasm and creative energy in our studio. You supported exciting and risk taking new exhibitions in our gallery. You partied with us during our fabulous birthday celebration, ClayFest Northwest. You create our unique and inviting community through your participation and generosity.

Will you contribute to make next year even better?

As the year ends, please join me in making a tax-deductible gift to Pottery Northwest. While the tuition from our classes pays our bills, the gift you make will allow us to fulfill our commitment to being a stronger, more exciting, and more inclusive Pottery Northwest.

I'm looking forward to 2017 and the work ahead in our next fifty years. The Wally Grant has made many amazing resident projects possible. We've already started updates to our ventilation system, and will soon move onto the restrooms, and kiln yard. This winter we will pilot a new curriculum for students interested in a professional ceramic practice. With our new scholarship program up and running, the response is so strong, we've had to turn applicants away.

I am eager to continue what we've started and we need your help. Help us raise $10,000 to complete our fundraising goal for 2016. Thank you and have a wonderful holiday season.

Music: This Must be the Place (Naive Melody) - Talking Heads

Resident, @luktose is back in the studio after his Wally Grant funded research trip to Spain. There, he saw the works of Gaudi, one of his greatest inspiration. He also made it over to Austria to see Hundertwasser House in Vienna. This quarter, Luke will be teaching a sculpture class inspired by architecture. Can't wait to see the work that comes out of it! #technowasinventedindetroit

It's been a busy week but we still have some gems available. Check out these pieces by @mitchiburgceramics, @kelsiekelsiekelsiekelsie,
@lizzizbiz, and @sharece_phillips! Last day of the holiday market today 10am-6pm!
